TRIO ANIMÆ
Dieter Hilpert - violoncello, Tomas Dratva - piano - Jean-Christophe Gwrysiak - violin
Trio Animæ, Basel, 2010
The Trio Animæ was one of the most active and successful Swiss chamber music ensembles of its time between 1993 and 2010. The trio always played in the same formation with pianist Tomas Dratva, violinist Jean-Christophe Gawrysiak and cellist Dieter Hilpert. In hundreds of concerts throughout Europe and South America, the Trio Animæ performed more than 100 compositions for piano trio.In addition to the classical piano trio repertoire, the Trio Animæ always focused on the music of the 20th and the early 21st century.
The artistic partnership with many composers led to numerous world premieres – Vladimír Godár, Nadir Vassena, Pēteris Vasks, Peter Breiner, John Wolf Brennan and Daniel Schnyder should be mentioned here. Very early on, the Trio Animæ also began an intensive engagement with Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Nuevo. The Argentinian cellist and composer José Bragato (1915–2017), one of Piazzolla’s first and long-time companions, played an important role. He wrote a large number of piano trio arrangements exclusively for the Trio Animæ. The Trio Animæ was known for a highly acclaimed discography. In the present collection PIANOVERSAL re-releases the complete studio recordings. «ASTORology & OTHER RECYCLED TANGOS» (Vol. 9) is a first release: This is the Trio Animæ’s last studio recording.
