The pianist Stefka Perifanova has made her mark with her versatility, stylistic breadth and unwavering musical instinct. As a passionate interpreter of contemporary music, she regularly collaborates with composers and has premiered in over 40 solo and ensemble works. As a soloist, chamber musician and song recital accompanist, she performs throughout Europe, Korea, Colombia and USA.

Stefka studied at the Sofia Music Academy in Bulgaria with professors Konstantin and Julia Ganev, becoming their assistant and teaching their piano class for four years. In 1993, she received the “Cyrillus und Methodius” scholarship, enabling her to continue her studies in Switzerland with Rudolf Buchbinder, Bruno Canino and Gerard Wyss.

She has won numerous competitions, including the first prize of the Concurso Internacional de Musica da Ciudade do Porto and the Tschumi Prize. Since 2005, she has been a member of the chamber music ensemble “Camerata Variabile” and is co-founder of the piano trio “Absolut Trio”. The debuts of the “Absolut Trio” in Wigmore Hall and in Tonhalle Zurich in 2007 were highly praised by the music press. The trio regularly commissions compositions. To date, 15 new works have been written for them. In 2018 the “Absolut Trio” was awarded the cultural prize “Interpretation” by the city of Zurich. In addition, they have released CD recordings through music labels Guild, Solo Musica and Musiques Suisses. Stefka Perifanova is an in-demand duo partner of renowned soloists such as Sol Gabetta, Raphael Oleg and Hansheinz Schneeberger. Her latest recording of songs by Olivier Messiaen “Harawi” with soprano Sarah Maria Sun was released by “Mode” in 2019. Stefka has also worked as a highly regarded piano assistant at master classes with Janos Starker, Igor Oistrach, Menahem Pressler, Bernard Greenhouse and Jean-Jacques Kantorow and has vast experience as a competition juror and is sought-after teacher of chamber music and piano masterclasses. In 1999, she was appointed by the Zurich University of Arts and since 2011 also by the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland.
